Monastery Prayer Retreat

Jesus invites you to…

“Come with me by yourself to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Mepkin Abbey Reatreat
South Carolina

April 21 – 24, 2017

When:   Friday, April 21 (leave Knoxville at 8am) – Monday,  April 24 (return to Knoxville by 3pm)

Where:   Mepkin Abbey, Monks Corner, SC, west of Charleston, 5-6 hour drive.
We will be in their beautiful NEW St. Francis Retreat Center

Cost:    $275 (for 3 nights, Fri-Mon)  includes private room, meals, and retreat materials.

Facility: Please refer to www.mepkinabbey.org to view the Abbey, see the Liturgy of the Hours schedule, read about the monks, and see what is provided for retreatants.

Dress:   No shorts in the Abbey area, church, or dining room.

Program:

We will meet together with a brother upon arrival for an orientation around 4:00, then be on our own.  This will be a personal retreat with you initiating whatever you need.  “Abbey retreats are silent, unstructured and undirected.”  If you wish spiritual direction with one of the brothers, arrange that before you arrive (see website for procedure.)

Each evening we will gather for an hour to practice centering prayer and lectio divina. Our focus will be on discerning God’s call for the coming months and discovering ways to be still and hear God’s still, small voice in the midst of our busy lives.  If this is your first visit, please read:  A Good Life: Benedict’s Guide to Everyday Joy, by Robert Benson and/or Music of Silence, by Brother David Steindl-Rast.

Questions:  Contact Susanne Hassell at 865-300-5859 or SuHassell@gmail.com.
